MONGOLO
by PierreP - WD FAQ Maker, all credit to him Tutorial about how-to backup your iPhone 2G & 3G and iPod Touch 1G & 2G before downgrading or upgrading your iOS to a a new update or upgrading the firmware to Whited00r or any other one.Better safe than sorry and backing up your device is always the first step! In the jailbreak tutorials whited00r Tutorial - Installation the first paragraph says @ the present: Quote Backup your Data. The installation process is safe and tested, but you are doing this at your own risk. For this reason we suggest that you backup your data (our firmwares have include an iCloud-like application to backup your Game saves to Dropbox since Whited00r 5), and transfer your applications from the device back to iTunes on your computer by following these simple steps: Right click on your device name in iTunes, select "Backup" and then "Transfer Purchases". You also could use other software like DiskAid to manually backup data, if you prefer. It is not very well explained so that's why we are making this Tutorial about how to backup everything you have on your iPhone & iPod Touch before upgrading to Whited00r or any other iOS as it is always the first installation step. 1- Use iTunes to do a full backup! Apple Support page: iOS: How to back up. Do not use the encrypted mode (password protected) as it may get corrupted and requires an additional step that may cause all kind of problems when extracting apps & data from it (see below for how-to do it). I don't know why Apple does that but in iTunes 11 the Sidebar and the Status Bar are off by default. Enabled them: View > Show Sidebar and View > Show Status Bar. Connect your iOS device (iPhone 2G & 3G and iPod Touch 1G & 2G) to a computer with iTunes installed. Click the File menu and select Devices > Back up. Or, you can right-click (Windows or Mac) or Control-click (Mac only) your device in the iTunes Source list, then choose Back Up from the shortcut menu that appears.Trick: Then you can use the free iPhone Backup Browser (download and un-zip). iPhone Backup Browser software can recover contacts, pictures, call histories, MMS, SMS and text messages, video, voicemail, calendar entries, notes, app files, saved games, debug information and data that might otherwise be inaccessible. Works on Windows (XP, Vista, 7), Mac OS X and Linux, with iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 backups from all versions of iTunes. I don't have a Mac so could not test them but you could try those free iPhone/iPod Touch Backup Extractor or iBackup Viewer for Mac OS X and report back here about if it worked for you or not so to help other Whited00r users. It's Karma man. Or the iPhone Backup Extractor trial which limits you on how much data you can extract ("Limited to four records") and then requires you to pay $25 @ the present. The iPhone Backup Extractor will run on any Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 computer, in 32 or 64-bit mode, or on Linux or OS X computers. 2- Transfer ALL your apps to iTunes including your cracked apps! After connecting your device to the computer and it's icon appears in iTunes, you can choose Transfer Purchases from "Your device name" from the File menu. Or, you can right-click (Windows or Mac) or Control-click (Mac only) your device in the iTunes Source list, then choose Transfer Purchases from the shortcut menu that appears. Please note that this feature only works for items that were purchased on the iTunes Store. Any items imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources will not copy from your device to the iTunes library.Whited00r 6 as a built-in feature named AppSync that enables you to use iTunes Transfer Purchases to transfer (backup) apps (cracked or not) that you installed on your iPhone or iPod Touch by using an alternative to iTunes. Otherwise you need to install the correct Appsync that works on your iOS version from Cydia ONLY IF you are not running Whited00r as you will break Whited00r if you install the NOT necessary Appsync in it! In > Cydia > Manage > Sources > Edit > add the Repos & don't make any typos otherwise it will not work: Code: [select] http://repo.insanelyi.com/http://sinfuliphonerepo.com/ Then > Cydia > Search > Appsync & install the correct one compatible with your current iOS version then reboot before Transfering your "purchases". Apple Support page: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer Backup cracked apps and data with itools 3- Backup and Re-install Individual Apps + your Personal Data! After that iTunes full safety backup, I prefer by far to use the free iPhone - iPod explorers instead like iTools (ad free) or iFunbox. Both can backup and re-install individual apps (including their data like at which level you are in a game and most importantly loggin data for Instagram and WhatsApp) & have a ton of other advanced features not found in iTunes. For apps that do not require logging in or activation, you do not need to backup the data unless you have some games in which you are at level 5 for example then if you install the app only you will be back to level 1 or install the app + data back up and the game will remember at what level you already were and your profile name for that game. iTools can even recreate an .ipa installation file from your app installed on the device if you lost the original app! To restore your app that includes your data, navigate to your app library and just select the app version with the Doc icon next to it or you can install the normal one that does not include any passwords or game state:Rule of thumb: always backup your old apps also in a folder other than you iTunes library because chances are that iTunes will update them to a newer version that requires iOS 4.3 or newer! You can create a custom app folder & add it to the iTools app Library. Notice below the path going to C:Users...Mobile Applications that is the path to my iTunes Library & will be different for you. One can navigate to it and copy the apps to paste them in his custom folder so iTunes cannot mess with them anymore.4- Backup your Contacts, Messages, Notes, Bookmarks & Call History & Restore Them With iTools > Information tab > you can also make individual backup packages of your Contacts, Messages, Notes, Bookmarks & Call History. Then connect an other iPhone or reconnect after flashing the firmware and you can Restore any one of them or all of them. Just open each tabs and click on Backup > Name it like you want (default is by the date is was made). Done! To Restore: select Open backup in each tab > select the backup you want and see it's content then hit Restore to Device or Sync to Device depending on the tab you are on. That's it, done!Note for Bookmarks: for some reasons on my Windows 7 64-bit PC a backup of Bookmarks made from an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.2.1 will not restore to the same iPhone 3G running iOS 3.1.3 or Whited00r. It loops for ever, never completing the task. The workaround is to use the Export button to Internet Explorer then connect an other iPhone or reconnect after flashing the firmware and use the Import from IE button. iTools can also Import from an HTML file of bookmarks that you created with IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc.5- Backup & Restore your Media & Photos With iTools you can also backup individually all your Media (Music, Ringtones, Videos, Podcast, iTunes U, TV Shows, Audio Books, Music Videos, Voice Memos & Playlists) & Photos with iTools & copy them back (or only part of it) to any Apple devices if you wish.More info & explanations soon so come back and visit this Backup Tutorial again please and subscribe to the thread (Notify). original post - [Tutorial] Backup Apps & Data BEFORE Upgrading iOS Firmware WD 7 3.1.3 4.1 4.2.1 by PierreP WD FAQ Maker, all credit to him StarViruZ
StarViruZ
tl;dr but nice tutorial for older devices, but my old iphone 3g drains battery in less than 2 hours and hope whited00r open gates for the new old i3gs and ipod
desd
It is highly recommend implementing a regular backup plan in order to minimize any chances of permanently losing data. Anyway there are many relative third-party software works well, just have a try! MONGOLO
